Elizabeth Hughes

Chester County

I am an artist in Chester County, Pennsylvania, working in Watercolor and Oils. I grew up on a State Park in rural up-state New York in the Finger Lakes area, surrounded by trees, lakes, waterfalls and wildlife. As a result, I love all things natural and have always found inspiration in nature.

My aunt painted and a love of her watercolors drew me to that medium. Now spending time in my studio I often get lost in painting, lose track of time and any cares drift away. It is very Zen-like. I enjoy the challenge and the magic of making objects appear 3-dimensional on the 2-dimensional paper or canvas.

My training has been with a variety of local artists: Sarah Yeoman, Alice Meyer Wallace, Deena Ball for watercolor and Randall Graham for oil painting. I have exhibited in both juried and non-juried shows at the Plastic Club (Philadelphia), the Main Line Art Center (Bryn Mawr), the Chester County Art Association (West Chester), the Oxford Art Alliance (Oxford), the 3 Pigs Café (West Chester), participate in the annual Hillview Artisan Open Studio Sale (Coatesville) and was part of the 2020 Chester County Studio Tour.
