Jill Haas weaves with paint. She overlaps multiple layers of diverse and colorful shapes to create paintings that resemble fiber art. To Jill, the process of making this work is a metaphor for the way we manage our many daily priorities, combining and resolving as we go.
Striving for variety in her mark making, Jill applies acrylic paint with brushes, rollers, hand-cut stencils, foam shapes, palette knives, yarn and plastic. She gives careful consideration to the edges of her marks as well as their relationship to the background. She considers themes of unification and fragmentation, and the relationship between part and whole.
Jill lives in Chester County, Pennsylvania with her husband, two daughters and two dogs. Her work is inspired by all of them.
