I work in mixed media because, why not? Often I start with collaging a hard surface with copies of my own drawings. The painting layers that follow may or may not cover the collage completely. I look for a fragile balance of color, shape, narrative and abstract imagery. Acrylic, oil, wax, pencil, and crayon all find their way into my paintings. My background in ceramics helped me develop a huge appreciation for surfaces that are richly textured and show their history.
