using paint and pencil I create for color narratives Celebrating the common moment of humanity Chronicled through nostalgic black and white photography

My art is a celebration of lives past for their contribution to the human experience. Although many of the people I paint are not famous or well-known. Deep in our soul we connect to them. They lived their lives as we live now and they have been where we are yet to go “the wisdom of the future is the past down city streets And wise old southern drawers. The things that say the most say things that last.“ Bill withers.

Dane has taken his art were towards new dimensions going from realism to a stylish combination developing his own interpretation of Southern and primitive Elongation. He has established himself as one of the premier painters of African-American art. He has a creative approach to artistic images of the common man, Woman and child. Danes images are inspired by African-Americans in and out of daily life, from the world of music and also sports. He has exhibited his artwork throughout the United States at art festivals galleries trade shows conventions and sports arenas where he has received numerous awards and recognition.

His work has been exhibited at the African-American Museum in Philadelphia and has had one man shows at Howard university Widener University West Chester University Kutztown university the university of Pennsylvania Penn state college and the butler institute of fine art in Youngstown Ohio. One of Dan’s paintings is in the Permanent collection of the baseball Hall of Fame He is the second African-American artist to have a painting in the baseball Hall of Fame. He has also created a number of murals two of which are in major league ball parks.

Dane’s creative philosophy is to bring to the audience his interpretive view of life on canvas. This is reflected in his diverse presentation as he shares his artistic gift with his audience. His unique style clearly defines his mastery of the craft.

With technical inspiration taken from a 19th C French glass-casting technique known as pate de verre, my glass assemblages are created in a kiln by fusing sugary particles of lead crystal. The individual elements are first hand-carved in wax or cast directly from botanicals; and once transformed into glass, are combined to create multicolored jewel-like objects I refer to as talismans (hand-held, free-standing and wall-mounted) and a variety of one-of-a-kind sculptural constructions including vessels, goblets and flacons. Imbued in each object is a reference to historical artifact, a sense of preciousness and the intangibility, yet familiarity that is associated with collaged memory. Many of the parts incorporated into the works are influenced by Buddhist iconography. From this vocabulary of symbols, often featured are plant and human forms, including the hand motif as it represents a ubiquitous cross-cultural human tool of expression, through its symbolic gestures of friendship, generosity, holding, letting go, etc.

I am an author-turned-artist who now gets her biggest charge from creating with paint and other materials rather than words. Most of my art is abstract and colorful. Even when working a with still life I prefer to render it in a somewhat abstract form, capturing the energy of the forms rather than an exact replica of what is before me.

For the last year I have worked on a series of paintings inspired by maps or chart-plotter images. Some these were commissions by people with vacation homes or boats on the water who wanted an unusual way to honor and reflect their favorite coastal location. I am also a huge fan of graphics and have also worked on a series of large and small Matisse-inspired gold stars on a field of color.

I am lucky enough to work out of a charming studio at the end of an Allee of Chinese fringetrees in my Malvern backyard.
