My work operates at the intersection of architecture, sociology and visual art. Portraits, freestanding sculptures and installations are composed of building materials and domestic items. Multilayered concepts relating to identity and social constructs are presented through a variety of artistic mediums and processes.
Carving, collage, fabrication, printmaking, painting and drawing are utilized to render images and communicate narratives. The items and processes I employ signify gender fluidity, a merger of public and private space and intermingling notions of traditional and modern.
Ascribing to the visual context of home as well as the ethos of homemade, the imagery and materiality of my work recounts a bequeathed normative that is embedded within the spaces we dwell. Exploring the layered identity of the individual, the additive and reductive processes of collage and carving are emblematic of personal history. Patterns and portraits are carved into drywall and plywood substrates relating to our origin from within the walls of our home.
