Paint from life for one hour

Cary Galbraith

I was influenced by the skill my father had as an artist, at a very young age. Now that I am 68 I feel like I am finally becoming an artist. I feel confident in my work.

About the Demonstration

Painting still lifes or florals is a good way to learn to paint. I try to paint everyday. Painting from life helps you to see and portray depth. When I am limited to one hour I must work quickly and selectively. The goal is to portray easily for the viewer what the subject is. I work small on an 6 x 8 piece of board and draw in the basic shape with a brush, then block in the values, then work on the focal point and colors.
