ARTIST’S STATEMENT Sally Richards
When I am making art, I am at play. I strive to recreate the wonder, freedom and energy of simpler times, growing up in PA as suburban living took root. This was a time when playing outside was an endless and thrilling discovery of made up games and little friends at play that lasted until the end of ambient light.
While I have a deep love of creating in paint, print and wood, my current focus is on painting abstracted, imaginary landscapes. My paintings are colorful, simple and full of energy, like the outdoor- centered days of youth. I paint these to discover and recreate the source of wonder, energy and aliveness in today’s world.
Every painting holds the power to connect people with their own experience of freedom and uninhibited self-expression. They have a restful but energetic countenance and the ability to transform space and spirit in a moment through play.
