Ellyn Spragins

I am an author-turned-artist who now gets her biggest charge from creating with paint and other materials rather than words. Most of my art is abstract and colorful. Even when working a with still life I prefer to render it in a somewhat abstract form, capturing the energy of the forms rather than an exact replica of what is before me.

For the last year I have worked on a series of paintings inspired by maps or chart-plotter images. Some these were commissions by people with vacation homes or boats on the water who wanted an unusual way to honor and reflect their favorite coastal location. I am also a huge fan of graphics and have also worked on a series of large and small Matisse-inspired gold stars on a field of color.

I am lucky enough to work out of a charming studio at the end of an Allee of Chinese fringetrees in my Malvern backyard.
