Rinal Parikh

Mixed Media

Born and brought up in India, Rinal Parikh is a contemporary artist with paintings inspired by her native folk arts. Her paintings are a celebration of nature, a celebration of life, and a celebration of colors. She enjoys incorporating different folk styles in her work mainly Warli, Kalamkari, and Madhubani as well as different mediums. While working on storytelling paintings she adapts Warli art as her style. Warli is one of the oldest forms of art and is mural art with basic vocabulary and earth tone color palette; it helps her bring out the colors of life through the stories. She uses a variety of things that nature offers like sand, grass, twigs, leaves to name a few to create stucco-like texture on canvas. She then delivers her stories via acrylic paints. While painting birds and animals, her preferred styles are Kalamkari and Madhubani. Kalamkari is one of the most intricate styles and Madhubani has the most vivid color palette. Both of these folk styles together bring out the brilliance of Mother Nature in her work. Her preferred medium for portraying birds and animals is gouache paint which brings out the brilliance of colors. She uses handmade paper which avails the textural element in her paintings.
