Painting

In my life and in my art, I am driven by stubborn gladness: a determination to find beauty and hope in a deeply flawed world.

Family history is woven into everything I do. I live in a house built by my great-grandparents. I paint in the room where my great-grandmother quilted. I cut flowers from the same garden beds my grandmother planted, and walk paths carved in the woods by my father.

These connections to the past fill me with a sense of comfort and remind me to marvel at mundane beauty: the color of the hickory leaves in fall, the sound of an owl, the shape of a cloud against a perfect blue sky.

My paintings tell stories of wonder through layers of color and texture that conjure timeworn objects.
