Emi Shigeno is a local emerging artist with a playful, curious spirit rooted in her Japanese American heritage. Her bilingual, bicultural background has led her to embrace "both/and" in her art, blending styles and exploring diverse expressions with an open, nonjudgmental approach. Emi's work captures fleeting moments of light and shadow and the often-overlooked beauty of ordinary scenes, reflecting a sense of childlike wonder and reverence for nature.
Emi's artistic journey began with nature and abstract photography, which evolved with the mentorship of Eo Omwake (2016-2019, acrylic) and Randall Graham (2021-2024, oil). Since committing to a professional path in the fall of 2023, Emi has won first place in the Chester County Art Association's Members' Show, leading to her debut solo exhibition in the fall of 2024. Her work has been recognized nationally in the Plein Air Salon contest and the Oil Painters of America exhibition, and she has received awards at local festivals, juried shows, and plein air events, where she feels most at home in the natural world.
