CHESCO

Working from both memory and direct observation, I focus on points of transformation in nature. These points are often visual representations of inner transformation. Color, as the language of our emotions and the heart, is my primary mode of expression as an artist.
Whether representational or abstract, I find myself painting thresholds and potentiality, spaces that anchor us in the present moment, while denoting change and possibility. Where a forest meets a field, land meets water, or inner transformation creates an outer shift, these are all focal points for my work.
Whenever possible, I work directly outside in plein air style for both my abstract and representational works.
I am particularly excited by the power of color to invoke an emotional response and am always seeking to incorporate evocative and subtle color elements in my work.
Another theme running through my work is a conversation between freedom and structure; this is also an organic product in my work.
I am a visual artist because it allows me to go within to express beauty and movement beyond thought. Often my abstract works are inspired from direct experience, observing life but referencing the formless. That at least, is the goal and anchoring point!
