Suzzette Ortiz, a pianist, harpist, and composer from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, has performed at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall and collaborated with artists including Bobby McFerrin, Tito Puente, and Eddie Palmieri. She trained at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and Temple University and led an award-winning choral program in Camden for over two decades. Amira Dvorah is a multi-instrumentalist whose expressive style on bansuri flute and guitar is shaped by classical Indian tradition and contemplative improvisation. She has accompanied Coleman Barks , and also shared the stage with many Indian master musicians including Ravi Shankar and Zakir Hussain.
About the Demonstration
Enjoy a Rumi-inspired poetry and music performance featuring Amira Dvorah on bansuri flute and acoustic guitar, with Suzzette Ortiz on piano and harp. The art of six exhibiting artists will be on view throughout the venue; Michael Green (co-creator of the best-selling The Illuminated Rumi with Coleman Barks) and poet Dr. Kythe Heller (Harvard Divinity School, director of Vision Lab) will offer selected readings. Admission is free and includes the performance, readings, and light refreshments. Donations are most welcome.
