I paint fish in unusual circumstances with oil and cold wax medium. My art appears light and sweet on the surface, but beneath the waxy layers and scratchy texture lies deeper themes of loneliness and struggle. The fish I paint are an exploration and expression of my journey with chronic Lyme disease. Fish depicted in bags or bowls, balancing on rocks, and in unexpected circumstances, represent so many aspects of living in a chronically difficult situation. My work expresses the isolation and limitations experienced at times, but also represents resilience, hopefulness and possibility, a reminder that you can do hard things and that you are stronger than know…just keep swimming.
About the Demonstration
This demonstration is an introduction to a fun and versatile painting technique using oil paint and cold wax medium. We will explore the many ways to create interesting texture, color combinations, and layers, using a variety of tools…many you may already have in your kitchen gadget drawer! First six people to the table will get to create a painting of their own to take home!!
