Susan is a full-time studio potter, ceramic arts teacher, and avid RV adventurer. Working in the ancient Japanese traditions of Nerikomi, Neriagi, and Mokume Gane, she transforms her love of nature into unique colored porcelain creations that express the tranquility, harmony, and beauty of the natural world.
About the Demonstration
Using the ancient Japanese tradition of Nerikomi, I'll demonstrate how I blend colored porcelain, form components of a flower design, and build a flower cane—a tube of clay containing a continuous pattern from end to end. I use slices of these canes to decorate functional porcelain pieces and create beads for ceramic jewelry. Join me as I share my techniques, answer questions about the process, and explore how I bring the beauty of the natural world to life through handcrafted colored porcelain.
