I am a full-time potter and retired healthcare leader. I’ve always been drawn to the art of making pottery and inspired by the natural world around me. I find wonder in taking a lump of clay and making something that is not only functional but bears the marks of its creator and eventually takes on the memories of its owner; like that favorite mug you reach for in the morning.
About the Demonstration
Throwing (shaping) clay on the potters wheel involves centering a small amount of clay, creating a narrow cylinder with thickened walls, and then collaring the clay inward to form a slender neck. The vessel is often shaped with a wider "belly" and refined, inward-sloping rims to secure a single stem.
