Michael Thomas
Michael N Thomas is a painter, designer, and mixed media artist from New York City. Raised in a multicultural home in Queens by his Ecuadorian mother and free-spirited American father, he found creative expression early. Now a father himself, he paints to communicate beyond words. His style—abstract, textured, and emotional—is shaped by post-punk music, graffiti, and Nuyorican poetry. The energy of NYC in the ’80s and ’90s shaped his bold use of color and line. Each piece explores the intersection of culture, memory, and existence. Michael moved to Philadelphia in 1998 to attend art school, studying at the Art Institute. He now works from his TigerHorseArt Studio. His work appears across the U.S. and in private collections.
About the Demonstration
This practice has never been about perfection. It’s about progress, the slow, quiet kind that sneaks up on you. It’s about showing up for myself before the emails, the obligations, the noise of the day. That hour with a brush in my hand, It’s mine first. Making a painting every single day has genuinely changed my life. Not in a dramatic, overnight way but in the way that showing up consistently for something you love tends to do. And that’s exactly what I want to share here, not just the paintings, but the experience of building a practice that grounds you, challenges you, and quietly transforms you.
