"Sometimes it can be the most ordinary moment that creates an extraordinary piece of art” Rick Rubin, author of The Creative Act: A Way of Being
I spend the Spring and Summer outdoors painting ordinary scenes in ordinary moments, hoping to make good paintings. I find a certain beauty and grace in these moments and scenes…places we pass by everyday but don’t always see. Perhaps if we pause, for a moment or two and look…. we’ll see something and feel something… that could be extraordinary.
“Mistakes can’t be erased but they can move you from your present position”
Richard Diebenkorn
In the Winter months, I’m in the studio working on larger paintings and pieces that I abstract from my painting experiences in the Spring and Summer. I am a believer in letting the work and its history show…even the “mistakes” one makes during its creation. Those often are what guide me and often, it’s those layers that gives the painting its life.
Sarah paints urban landscapes in oil during the spring/summer and abstracts them in the winter using mixed media
