Painting

For more than 40 years I have been inspired by the bucolic imagery and natural beauty of Bucks and Chester counties in Pennsylvania. My work is focused primarily on landscape and working directly from the subject. I am constantly experimenting with new tools, different supports and mediums, and different ways of applying paint in an evolving approach to making pictures.

The beauty of nature inspires me, but it is the drama of light that I chase. In the outdoor world, every moment is new and different, never to be repeated in a continuously changing landscape. I am drawn to the drama of light and shadow that rakes across the vertical stands of trees and grasses to weave a tapestry of color. I am fascinated by creating the illusion of dimensional space, depth, and atmosphere in my work. Color, shape, tone, and value are composed into an organized structure of abstract marks to create a dynamic reality unique to each viewer.

I believe nature inspires awe in each of us, evoking common memories and experiences. It is what draws us to the natural world, reminds us of our humanity, and connects us to each other.
