Susan O’Hanlon

Ceramics

I am a full-time Ceramic Artist and Instructor in Downingtown, PA, and I am elbow deep in love with clay! My wide range of work includes decorative raku pieces, wheel-thrown functional stoneware, colored porcelain forms and artisanal ceramic jewelry. My newest work is inspired by the color combinations I find in nature on our frequent RV trips. Using nature’s perfect color palettes as a reference, I mix colorants into porcelain and then combine Nerikomi and Neriagi techniques to create complex patterns within vertical columns of clay. Cross-sections of these columns become the medium from which I create my one-of-a-kind artisanal ceramic jewelry and functional colored porcelain forms. Stop by my studio to see a demonstration or to learn about my workshops, studio sharing and mentorship programs.
