Ceramics
I have been the Ceramics Studio Supervisor at Historic Yellow Springs since 2015 and have always relied on community studios for the time, space, equipment, materials, and kilns to create my work. I see our community studio as a place for reciprocity of skills and ideas as it pertains to clay, art, and life. I recycle the studio scrap clay to use in my work, and make glaze with ash from our wood-fired kiln. When making, I am most absorbed in the physical, gestural marks through clay, and the anatomy of lines circling the pot. Each motif allows me to express the personal in universal terms referencing family/community/society, art, or nature.
