Kathleen Dernoga

Painting

I’ve been painting and drawing since I was a child and attended the then Philadelphia College of Art (not the Philadelphia University of the Arts). During the pandemic I revisited my passion for art by attending art classes on line and then followed up with in-house classes at the Wayne Art Center in Wayne, PA.

What makes me most excited about making art is the process of moving from a blank canvas to a finished piece and all of the ugly middle stages. I started by painting still lifes, seascapes, and landscapes in oils on canvas and canvas board.

A new challenge for me is experimenting with mixed media (acrylics, paper, magazine clippings, and things found in nature such as leaves, twigs, flowers, etc. ) I enjoy using these materials and techniques to move along the creative process.

I hope you will find my work interesting.
