Stemming from work with relief printing, I use water-soluble mediums to create works inspired by nature. Deconstructed images, handmade prints and drawings, hand draw patterns and textures, as well as traditional painting techniques and colored papers are used and reused to explore images rooted in pattern, line, and color, often incorporating floral or vegetative motifs. Heavily influenced by early modernist painting movements, my paintings are slowly developed conversations with snapshot images of my mind’s eye. Similar to physical conversations allowed to develop, nuance and facets of the topic reveal themselves during the process, sometimes leading to unexpected or unintended places. This is the essence of painting, to me. The discovery of new, sometimes surprising, conclusions about the world around you, often found in the small details.
