I started refinishing antiques when I was 12. I love items that have had a previous life- the knicks, peeled paint, and wear and tear is what catches my eye and imagination. In my early teens I started carving folk art birds, weather vanes etc, some of which ended up in art galleries and some even at the American Folk Art Museum in Manhattan. With an empty nest in later years, I found myself with more time and ways to be creative. I now mostly enjoy making art with what I have - found objects, leftover wood from house projects or bits found at yard sales. I let the materials speak to me and find my subjects end up all over the map from boats to birds to whirligigs and more. I’m at my happiest and most creative breathing new life into old materials- I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoy making them.

I am a tapestry weaver working with traditional techniques but incorporating patterns and textures suggested by the yarns themselves to create a unique, "painterly" effect. I also work in pastel, often using that medium to inspire my weaving. Sea, sky and landscape are favorite subjects. Sometimes I combine other materials such as metals and hand-made papers, to form mixed-media collages. During the Covid pandemic I have been working on a small scale using new techniques in oil pastel which I hope will inspire many tapestries in the future!
